On Sunday, the European football championship will culminate in a final between Spain and England.

On Thursday, UEFA introduced the referee team that will lead the final match.

In the EURO 2024 final, the referee team from France will work with Francois Letexier in charge.

The 35-year-old Frenchman has officiated three matches in this European football championship so far. In the group stage, the referee led the matches between Albania and Croatia, as well as Denmark and Serbia, and also worked in the quarter-final match between Spain and Georgia.

This decision by UEFA surprised the football community, as it was expected that the final would be officiated by either the Polish referee Szymon Marciniak or the more experienced French referee Clement Turpin.

The entire referee team for EURO 2024 final:

Referee: François Letexier (France)
First assistant referee: Cyril Mugnier (France)
Second assistant referee: Mehdi Rahmouni (France)
Reserve referee: Szymon Marciniak (Poland)
