Madrizo "Real" legend Raul Gonzalez has finally decided to end his 21-year professional football career. The last match of the football legend became the final of the second-tier U.S. Soccer League (NASL), which was victorious.
The 38-year-old footballer with the legendary "New York Cosmos" club defeated the Canadian club "Ottawa Fury" 3-2 in the final and won the title.
Scoring 8 goals in the championship, the Spaniard, along with several other footballers, shared fifth place in the top scorers' list.
"These were my last career matches. I am proud of what I have achieved. I am starting a new chapter in my life, I am happy, but at the same time also sad," BBC quotes Raul.
Debuting in the main "Real" team in 1994, Raul became the all-time top scorer for the Madrid club, scoring 228 goals. It was not long ago that the current "Real" leader Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed the Spaniard.
With the "Real" team, Raul won the Spanish "La Liga" six times, and the UEFA Champions League three times.
In the 2001 "Ballon d'Or" awards, he remained second after Michael Owen, having won the top scorer of the Spanish league title twice.
Throughout his entire career, Raul has never received a red card.
