It is reported that Everton striker Romelu Lukaku is marked as the number one target on Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal's wishlist for the January transfer window.
United currently have only two strikers - Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial, and according to the Telegraph, Lukaku is valued by the "Red Devils" strategist as the most suitable player for his team, considering his quality and experience in the Premier League.
This year, Everton's striker has already scored 12 goals and seven times in the last six matches. For comparison, this season in the Premier League, Rooney and Martial together scored only 5 goals.
Although United are behind the leading Leicester City team by several points, there are doubts whether they can win the Premier League without changes. By acquiring Lukaku, the situation could fundamentally change. Despite being only 22 years old, he already has a lot of experience in professional football. The striker has played 295 matches, a result that is often associated with experienced footballers.
The problem arises because Lukaku's current team will surely not want to let go of their main striker, and the player's current contract is valid until 2019. However, United could at least double the £28 million amount paid for the player last year and convince Everton to say goodbye to one of their best players. There is almost no doubt that Lukaku himself would have no objections to joining United, which is much more highly valued in the football world than the current Belgian team.
