Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson demanded an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the transfer of former Everton midfielder Ross Barkley to Chelsea in London.
Officially announced yesterday was the transfer of the England national team member - it cost the "aristocrats" just 15 million pounds sterling, which is 20 million less than the offer rejected on the last day of the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old footballer's contract with the Toffees was only valid for six months and this season he did not play due to injuries, but the manager of Everton suspects shady dealings.
"I intend to contact the Premier League and the English Football Association to investigate the circumstances of Ross Barkley's transfer from Everton to Chelsea," Anderson wrote on the social network Twitter. "An agent pulls out a 35 million-pound transfer on the last day of the transfer window, then he doesn't play for four months and his price drops by 20 million."
Barkley, who signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with Chelsea, was represented by Everton from the age of eleven.
I will be writing to @premierleague & @FA calling for investigation into the circumstances around the transfer of Ross Barkley between Everton and Chelsea. Agent pulls transfer on deadline day of £35 million doesn’t play again transfer 4 months later £20 million
