While still alive - a monument. Such a gift was made to the famous Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo by the authorities and residents of his native Madeira island's city of Funchal. On Sunday, the best footballer on the planet in 2013, C.Ronaldo, took part in the opening ceremony of his monument.
800 kg of bronze was needed for the production of C.Ronaldo's monument, which is 2.4 meters high. The monument stands at the port of Funchal, next to a museum that houses the Cristiano Ronaldo exhibition.
Before its opening, one of the most famous footballers of our time received a medal from the Madeira authorities for promoting the region.
"It is a great honor for me to receive this award," C.Ronaldo said in Madeira. "It is difficult for me to find words to express my emotions. This is a very important day in my life, as it motivates me to continue playing, to strive for greatness. I am very happy to return to Madeira, where I was born, where my family lives."
However, after the opening of the monument, some football fans who are not fans of C.Ronaldo discussed not the artwork itself, but its detail - because in the sculpture, the man's pride is particularly emphasized. Some internet users joked that C.Ronaldo's lower part of the monument was more important than his head.
