FIFA announced that monetary fines were imposed on the finalists of the previous World Cup, the national teams of Spain and the Netherlands, for rough play.

During the 120 minutes of the match, English referee Howard Webb showed a total of 14 yellow and 1 red card. The Dutch players received 9 yellow cards and 1 red card, while the Spanish players received 5 yellow cards.

The Spanish team, who became world champions, will have to pay a fine of 10,000 Swiss francs, while the Dutch team will have to pay a fine of 15,000 Swiss francs.
