The Netherlands Crushed England in the Semi-Final of the Nations League

On Thursday, the second UEFA Nations League semi-final match took place in Portugal.

The Netherlands national team defeated England 3:1 after extra time and will face Portugal in the tournament final.

The first to speak in these matches were the players of the England national team. After playing for just over half an hour, Netherlands defender Matthijs de Ligt made a mistake in his penalty area by fouling Marcus Rashford, and the referee immediately pointed to the 11-meter mark.

Rashford took the penalty and put his team ahead in the 32nd minute. Both teams had chances to score at the end of the first half, but England went into halftime with a 1:0 lead.

In the 54th minute, England had another great chance to score, but Jasper Cillessen saved Jadon Sancho's shot.

Later in the game, the Dutch took control and in the 73rd minute managed to equalize the score - de Ligt headed the ball into the net after a corner kick.

After that goal, English players woke up and in the 83rd minute, Jesse Lingard scored to put his team in front again. However, the VAR system intervened, spotting a slight offside, so the result remained unchanged.

At the end of the second half, both teams had chances to secure victory, but the main time ended in a 1:1 draw and the players had to go into extra time.

The Dutch team performed much better in extra time. In the 97th minute, Kyle Walker scored an own goal while trying to correct his teammate John Stones' mistake. After that, the Dutch had several more great chances but failed to capitalize on them.

During the second half of extra time, England tried to show signs of recovery, but all their hopes vanished in the 114th minute when Quincy Promes capitalized on Ross Barkley's mistake to secure the Netherlands' victory.

In the Nations League final on Sunday, the Netherlands will face Portugal, while England will meet Switzerland in the battle for bronze.
