The other side of C. Ronaldo's "departure" story: Is it all orchestrated by J. Mendes?

Yesterday, the whole world was buzzing with news about a possible departure of Cristiano Ronaldo from the Madrid "Real" club, which caused a huge commotion. According to the media, the 32-year-old football star is disappointed with the tax evasion accusations thrown at him by the Spanish court, so he no longer wants to play in this country. It seems that Ronaldo's desire to leave the "Real" team is not because of bad relations with the club management - on the contrary, his relations with the whole team and its management have been very close and warm recently. According to the media, Ronaldo decided to make such a drastic decision only because of the mentioned scandal. On the other side of the situation, a well-respected site for "Real" fans, "Managing Madrid," tried to take a look at the situation differently. In their opinion, Ronaldo's departure is not as likely as the media is trying to portray it, and player's agent Jorge Mendes contributed the most to this whole story. It is claimed that this could be a strategy by 51-year-old agent Jorge Mendes to get even more money from the Madrid "Real" club. The best football player on the planet had a very difficult start to the season, but in the second half, the Portuguese demonstrated impressive form and helped the team win the two most important titles - triumphed in the Champions League and in the La Liga championships. Mendes may be trying to negotiate an even more lucrative contract for his client at the "Real" club. In addition, the threats of departure may force the "Real" club to pay 30 million euros to the Spanish tax authorities as soon as possible, which could help both Mendes and Ronaldo quickly get out of the tax scandal. According to the author of the mentioned site, if the rumors about Ronaldo's threats to leave are true, it is not the player, but the "Real" club that should be angry. The Portuguese press began to talk about Ronaldo not receiving proper support from the club, but this is definitely not entirely true. But in such a case, it is certainly not the club that should be responsible for the player's wrongdoings, especially when they involve tax evasion. Moreover, just a day after Portugal was accused of tax evasion, the "Real" official website released a statement in full support of Ronaldo in this situation. This is definitely not a situation where the star of the Portuguese national team should blame the "Real." Just a few weeks ago, Ronaldo mentioned in an interview that his dream was to play until the age of 41 and finish his career here in Madrid. It is difficult to understand how a player convinced of his innocence could change his mind so drastically in just a few weeks and decide to leave the club that gave him the opportunity to be the best in the world even at such an age. Super agent Mendes, as he is known, has had very difficult relations with "Real" throughout his collaboration. However, Mendes has very warm relations with Ronaldo - the agent once mentioned in an interview that this player is like a son to him, and Ronaldo himself, to show his trust in his representative, gave him an island as a gift for his impressive sum of money on his 50th birthday. According to the author, it is entirely normal to expect that Mendes instilled in Ronaldo the idea that all this tax scandal is solely the fault of the "Real" club. As previous stories show, all of Mendes' clients in Spain have had tax problems: Pepe, Fabio Coentrao, Ricardo Carvalho, Radamel Falcao, Angel Di Maria, and Jose Mourinho were all under the radar of the Spanish Tax Inspection. This clearly shows that this representative of all these footballers and coaches is the most guilty in tax evasion stories, so Ronaldo should understand that his agent is simply trying to make the Madrid club a scapegoat. It is unlikely that "Real" and Ronaldo will part ways so easily after eight years, especially after this season when Zinedine Zidane's coached team is entering a new era and has the opportunity to win all possible trophies next season. Even if Ronaldo's motives for staying in the team do not convince, it can seriously be suspected that something inappropriate was done by Ronaldo in this tax situation. But if this is not because of the whole tax evasion history, Ronaldo should be angry only with his agent Mendes, who got him into this whole situation. If Mendes demands a bigger contract for his client, it is definitely not the best way to demand a higher salary for his client.
