Opening the summer transfer window, the "Panevėžio" football club invited an attacking player to join their ranks. A contract valid until the end of the season was signed with the 30-year-old Senegalese Cheikhou Dieng.

Normally playing as a right-back, the footballer started his career in Europe at the "Sandefjord" club in Norway, where he spent several seasons before moving to the "St. Polten" team in Austria.

The fast-paced player was bought by Istanbul's "Başakşehir" in 2016 and was loaned to the same "St. Polten" club, as well as to Ankara's "Ankaragücü", Subotica's "Spartak", and Innsbruck's "Wacker" teams. Later, Ch. Dieng arrived at Wolfsberg's "Wolfsberger" and with the Austrian club, he reached the Europa League round of 16 in the 2020-2021 season - where he faced the famous London team "Tottenham Hotspur".

In 2022, the Senegalese player joined forces with Lubin's "Zagłębie", but quickly returned to Austria and defended the honor of "Leoben", playing his last match for the club at the end of May this year.

"The incentive to join 'Panevėžio' was that the club will play in European competitions and became the champion last season - everyone wants to represent the winner.

"I am in good shape - the league where I played recently just finished, so I didn't take a break and kept training. When your contract ends and you look for a new team, you always have to be ready.

The footballer from Senegal may debut in the upcoming "Panevėžio" match against Alytus DFK "Dainava", which will take place on June 22, Saturday. The match starts at 19:00 at the "Aukštaitijos" stadium.
