This weekend, the 37th round of the Spanish championship ("La Liga") matches were played. On Friday, the matches rescheduled at the request of the Spanish champions "Valencia", were won at home by "Villareal", fighting for a place in next year's UEFA Cup against "Valencia" with a weaker lineup. It was already the third meeting of these teams in a month and the first victory for "Villareal". In the matches on Saturday, "Deportivo" secured their place in next year's Champions League long ago, defeating "Celta" team fighting to stay in the league. All three goals were scored in the first half-hour of the match. In the other Saturday matches, "Betis" secured a victory against "Valladolid" who demonstrated the worst form in the league. After this round, it became clear that the battle for the last place in next year's UEFA Cup will move to the final round. "Athletic", who defeated "Osasuna" 1-2 away in this round, has already secured a place in next year's UEFA Cup, while four teams will fight for the sixth place, for which the remaining ticket belongs. "Villareal" currently holds the best position in 6th place, but "Sevilla", "Malaga", and "Atletico" still have theoretical chances to rise to the sixth place. The latter team significantly worsened their position in this round - the players shocked by the death of the team's major shareholder, who were in sixth place before the round, fell to eighth place. "Esperan" who fights to stay in the league left the field very disappointed, as they could not resist the powerful "Mallorca" - although Barcelona finished the first half leading 0-2, "Mallorca" scored four goals in the second half and left the field victorious. The next round will feature a fierce battle to stay in the league. After this round, the threat of relegation looms over only three clubs, one of which will play in "La Liga" next year. The best position is held by the 17th-placed "Espanyol" players, but "Celta" and "Valladolid" still do not lose hope. In the principal battle for the second place, the "Barcelona" players defeated the "Racing" team 1-0 today, and broke ahead in the silent battle with "Real". The sensation of the round was recorded in Murcia - the home team, which was already relegated in the middle of the season, defeated Madrid's "Real" 2-1, which after this defeat gave up the second place to their fiercest adversary - the "Barcelona" team. The two goals by Luis Garcia in the first half were symbolic of "Real's" gameplay in the past few months. It is worth mentioning that this victory for "Murcia" was the 200th of the team's coach John Toshack, who previously coached "Real" in the Spanish championship.
