In the second Bundesliga, the "Fortuna Dusseldorf" club found an original way to punish their player for using a sexist remark towards the referee before the match.
Kerem Demirbay was sent to referee girls' football matches after he told Bibiana Steinhaus, "There is no place for women in men's football."
Demirbay said these words after receiving a second yellow card, but later apologized for his behavior towards the referee.
"I truly regret what I said to Ms. Steinhaus. I should not have said anything like that, and it definitely does not reflect my views on women," the player later apologized.
But this was not enough for the team to refrain from further punishment. They shared photos of the player refereeing matches on their Facebook page with the caption: "That's what happens when a young player makes a mistake!"
