President of the French Football Federation, Noel Le Graet, claims that Karim Benzema has a chance to return to the national team, but the final decision will be made by coach Didier Deschamps.
By the decision of the strategist, the 28-year-old forward was not included in the lineup of the French national team that participated in the 2016 European Championship. D. Deschamps made this decision after a case was raised against K. Benzema for possible blackmail of Mathieu Valbuena.
"I'm against a lifetime ban. We won't take risks like that," Le Graet hinted about the possible return of the footballer. "He didn't play in the European Championship, but regarding this decision, the opinions of me and the coach matched."
"Considering the rules, Benzema can be called up like any other player. Nasri is an example. When the court makes a decision, whether to bring Karim back to the national team or not will be decided by Deschamps," added the head of French football.
French football fans themselves express disappointment that K. Benzema has not yet been called up to the national team.
D. Deschamps was criticized during the European Championship when Olivier Giroud was the main team striker. For this World Cup qualifying stage, K. Benzema has not yet received a call from the coach, although he would have been rejected anyway - the forward is recovering from an injury.
K. Benzema has played 81 matches and scored 27 goals for the French national team.
