Following impressive scenarios, all three matches of the 5th round of the Lithuanian Football A League ended with the same result. The clash of leaders in Marijampolė between local team "Sūduva" and Vilnius team "Žalgiris" was very intense and unpredictable - the scoreboard showed a 1:1 (0:1) result after the match. The first minutes belonged to "Sūduva": Giedrius Matulevičius redirected the ball into the net from a grateful position, while both attempts from Aleksandar Živanovičius during set pieces were neutralized by Martynas Berkecas. "Žalgiris" managed to hold on and take the lead in the 36th minute: after an excellent pass from Domantas Šimkus from the right side, Marko Karamarko accurately headed the ball into the net. Soon after due to an injury, Mihretas Topčagičius had to leave, and the teams were hindered from demonstrating higher quality football by strong wind and rain. In the second half, the game continued to be tough, but the goalkeepers had work to do. M. Berkovecas brilliantly saved the shot from Josip Tadić with his head, and Ivan Kardum saved his team after Hugo Vidémont appeared in front of him. Coach Aliaksei Baga gave Francis Kyemereh the opportunity to debut, but it did not save them from the painfully missed victory. In the 95th minute, winning the aerial duel in the penalty area, Semiras Kerla passed the ball to Thomas Salamon, who bypassed a couple of opponents and struck the ball past the goalkeeper with one touch. "Sūduva" finished the first round with 13 points and maintained a 3-point advantage over "Žalgiris" in second place.
