After a day passed since the dismissal of Jose Luis Mendilibaras, the last-place coach of Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish league table, the Spanish media began discussing the precarious position of Barcelona's head coach, Miguel Angel Lotina, who is currently in second-to-last place.

These discussions were further fueled by a statement from a representative of Espanyol, who declared that the fate of the coach would be decided by the board of directors meeting on Wednesday.

The Spanish media rushed to name potential candidates to replace M.A. Lotina if he were to be dismissed. It is stated that the list of candidates includes Frenchman Luis Fernandez and Argentine Marcelo Bielsa, both of whom have previously coached the club. The candidacy of former Deportivo La Coruna coach Javier Irureta is also not ruled out.

After suffering a 0-2 defeat to league leaders Osasuna on Sunday, M.A. Lotina told journalists that he was not worried about his position: "I am not worried about my position. Coaches do their job until the club president says he doesn't like the coach's hairstyle or tie. I can't change that."

The former Celta Vigo coach took over at the Catalan club at the beginning of last season and helped them finish an impressive fifth in the table. This was Espanyol's best result in almost a decade.

It is worth mentioning that this summer, Espanyol sold last season's undeniable team leader, Argentine national team defender Maxi Rodriguez, who moved to Atletico Madrid.
