In the 23rd minute, defender I. Ingimarsson scored a header, which turned out to be decisive for the hosts. Although the away team had more ball possession (60% to 40%), they were unable to equalize the score. It became even more difficult for the Manchester players to play for the remaining 10 minutes, as their new French defender Ousmane Dabo was sent off with a red card.

Debutants "Reading", who secured their second victory in the Premier League, moved up to 8th place with 6 points, while "Manchester City", with only one goal in 4 matches, remained in 10th place.

With this win, "Reading" extended their unbeaten streak to 29 matches at their home stadium of "Madejski", while "Manchester City's" lack of success shouldn't come as a surprise – the team has won only once away from home this year.
