The German media reported that 46-year-old Stephan Beckenbauer, the son of German football legend Franz Beckenbauer, has passed away. He worked for the Munich "Bayern" team.
Stephan Beckenbauer was suffering from a serious illness, but the exact nature of it was not disclosed. For many years, he worked with the 17-year-old players of the "Bayern" club.
The son of a football legend was the only one of Franz Beckenbauer's five children to become a footballer. However, Stephan, who played for the Bayern reserve team, did not reach great heights, playing only 12 matches in the Bundesliga.
Due to a serious knee injury at just 29 years old, Stephan had to end his football career. Until 2012, he worked with the Bavarian team's 17-year-olds, and from 2012 onwards - in the team's scouting department.
Stephan Beckenbauer left behind three sons.
