The Spanish Football Federation has confirmed that the usual pre-season matches, where the winners of the King's Cup and "La Liga" would meet, will be replaced by a three-day final four tournament.
Since last year, the Super Cup match has been played as a single game just before the start of "La Liga." Going forward, there will be even bigger changes - four teams will compete for this trophy.
In addition, this tournament will take place in January, outside of Spain, possibly in one of the Asian countries. The final four will include both finalists of the King's Cup and the first two teams in "La Liga." If at least one of these teams reaches the King's Cup final, the team below them in the "La Liga" standings will advance to the final four.
The first semifinal match is scheduled for January 8th next year, and the second one - January 9th. The final would take place two days after the second semifinal.
"La Liga" is opposed to these actions by the Spanish Football Federation, so a final decision on the tournament format has not yet been made.
RFEF say this is now confirmed as Spanish football's calendar for next year, with four team Supercopa in Jan [wouldn't be huge surprise if it was now challenged by La Liga or someone else though]. pic.twitter.com/XIPDRCTZ6M - Dermot Corrigan (@dermotmcorrigan) April 29, 2019
