The head coach of the Spanish national team, Vicente Del Bosque, received bad news - after thorough examinations, it was revealed that Thiago Alcantara will be forced to miss the 2014 World Cup.
On Tuesday, V. Del Bosque announced a list of 30 football players, which included Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago, but the Spaniard suffered a knee injury.
It was expected that the 23-year-old player would be able to play in the German Cup final against Borussia Dortmund this Saturday, but the former Barcelona player will have to forget about it.
"This is a tough blow for Thiago and we feel bad for his misfortune," said Bayern's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
"He is a young man who worked hard throughout the season. He wanted to be part of the Spanish national team, and now suddenly everything is over," added the Bavarian representative.
This season, in 25 games played for Bayern, Thiago scored three goals.
