After the end of the 2005 season of the "A League," the first changes are taking place at Vilnius "Vėtra" - the capital club officially announced on Friday that the contract with the team's head coach Sergejus Borovskis will not be extended until the end of the championship.
Despite the fact that, except for the appearance in the Intertoto Cup, where they failed to pass the first stage, they played successfully for most of the year, at the end of the season the club significantly tarnished its season after experiencing failures in the most important matches - not only did the Vilnius team lose the LFF Cup final to "Kaunas," but they also lost to Marijampolė's "Sūduva" in the fight for the third position in the penultimate round.
Although the team managed to progress slightly and rise one place higher in the tournament table compared to the previous season, the main task - to win a ticket to the UEFA Cup tournament - was not fulfilled. Such an end to the season seemed unsatisfactory to the club's management, so the decision was made not to extend the contract with S. Borovskis and to look for a new strategist.
The 50-year-old coach from Belarus, S. Borovskis, two years ago coached the "Kaunas" club and became the Lithuanian champion with them, but later in the season moved to work in Ukraine. The position of head coach of "Vėtra" was entrusted to the Belarusian at the beginning of this year.
