The Success Story of J. Bullard: How a footballer got a higher salary through a mistake

What would you do if the money in the employment contract was much less than agreed? At the very least - you would protest. But what if you unexpectedly saw numbers in the contract that you couldn't even dream of? That's exactly the story that Jimmy Bullard, who once played for the English team "Hull City," told more than five years ago.

J.Bullard, a midfielder for "Hull City," who fought in the second-tier English football league from 2009-2011, spoke last week about how the team changed his life. Of course, for the better.

"Hull City" paid him £15,000 (about €19,300) per week more than the team leaders had agreed with the player.

J.Bullard joined "Hull City" in January 2009, having transferred from the "Fulham" team - the club promised to pay him £3.8 million (€4.88 million) for two seasons. They bought him from "Fulham" for £5 million.

As the footballer himself said, when he was sitting in the club's headquarters and was ready to sign the contract, he saw that the weekly salary was flashing £55,000, not the agreed £40,000.

"When I saw those numbers, I started pointing with my eyes to my agent. Then, not seeing anyone, I quietly handed him a note with the figures under the table. He looked at it, quietly said that it was a mistake and that someone had written the numbers wrong, but advised me to sign the contract as soon as possible. So I did," J.Bullard said.

According to several agencies, the player who ended his career in 2012, is still grateful to the "Hull City" team.

"Thank you, 'Hull City.' You kept the contract terms, paid me on time, and made me rich. I received almost £1.5 million more than I should have and just bathed in money. I bathed in it even after that because my contract was serious and other clubs couldn't offer such small money," said the 37-year-old man.

In 2011, J.Bullard allegedly got drunk during training camp in Slovenia and "Hull City" fired him. After that, the footballer was invited by "Ipswich Town" and offered to pay him £45,000 per week.

Because the team leaders looked at his former contract and were happy to have acquired a good player for a lower price.
