Michael Ballack's first goal in five years in the German championship decided Bayer Leverkusen's victory over Freiburg on Friday.

The last time the goalkeeper sent the ball into the net in his home country's championship was in May 2006, when he last wore Bayern Munich's jersey before moving to Chelsea in London.

However, the 35-year-old veteran was supposed to be substituted in the 65th minute, as he could not continue the match after a collision with an opponent. It is suspected that he may have broken his nose.

The country's vice champions (17 points) managed to climb temporarily to 8th place in the standings, earning three points. Meanwhile, Freiburg, with 7 points, is in the last 20th place.
