Former "Milan" defender and Italian national team coach Cesare Maldini bid farewell to the world last night - his family announced.
The father of another legendary footballer Paolo had reached the age of 84.
He spent most of his career in the "fashion capital" and among the "rossoneri" from 1954 to 1966. With the club, he won four "Scudetto" titles and in 1963 he led them to the top of Europe for the first time.
In total, he played more than 400 matches for the "Milan" team, and with the Italian national team jersey, he stepped onto the field 14 times and participated in the 1960 World Cup.
After retiring in 1967, five years later Maldini became the coach of "Milan." His team then won the UEFA Cup and the "Coppa Italia."
From the 1980s, he worked as an assistant coach for his national team for several years, and later, in 1996, he took over as the head coach.
After the 1998 World Cup with the Italians, after four years, he helped Paraguay to qualify for the tournament.
