Lithuanian football referees will work in the UEFA Champions League group stage matches for the first time this season. The refereeing team, led by Gediminas Mazeika, will officiate the Group A match between Borussia Dortmund and Brugge club on Wednesday.
G. Mazeika will be the main referee, assisted by assistant referees Vytautas Simkus and Vytenis Kazlauskas, reserve referee Dovydas Suziedelis, and additional goal-line referees Donatas Rumsas and Manfredas Lukjancukas.
This will be the fifth round of the Champions League Group A, where Borussia club (9 points) can secure a spot in the quarterfinals. Brugge team (4 points) will need a win to keep their hopes alive for the next stage. The match will take place at the Signal Iduna Park stadium in Dortmund, which can accommodate 81 thousand spectators.
G. Mazeika and Lithuanian referees have already officiated in two matches of the Europa League group stage this season, as well as in the qualifiers of the Champions League and Europa League.
