At 18:00 during the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia, the last matches of the 1st round of group stage were played.

In Sochi, the national teams of Australia and Germany clashed. The young German team led by Joachim Low achieved a fairly secure victory in a high-scoring duel with a 3-2 result.

The first goal did not take long to wait - the German team, playing without their leaders, took the lead in the 5th minute. After a brilliant pass from Julian Brandt into the penalty area, Lars Stindl defeated the opponents' goal with a precise shot.

For the Australians, equalizing after the goal was not easy and the Germans dominated the field. Sandro Wagner was close to scoring in the 15th minute, but his header was off target. A little later, the same S. Wagner was once again close to a goal, but his shot went wide.

The Australians created their first serious opportunity in the 37th minute, when after a set-piece, a defender's header missed the target. However, Australians managed to equalize in the 41st minute - Tom Rogic scored on his second attempt to beat the unsteady Bernd Leno.

However, Australia did not enjoy this score for long - in the 44th minute a penalty was awarded to their goal and it was confidently converted by Julian Draxler to give the Germans the lead again.

The second half started with another quick goal from the German footballers - in the 48th minute, Leon Goretzka scored the third goal for his team after a brilliant pass from Joshua Kimmich.

Even after this goal, Australia did not give up - in the 56th minute, the gap was once again minimal. Tomi Juric received the ball straight at his feet after a very uncertain play by Bernd Leno, and he sent it into the opponent's goal from just a few meters away.

Throughout the remaining time, the Australians tried to fight for an equalizer, but the Germans did not allow dangerous chances for the opponents. In the 74th minute, Timo Werner, who came on as a substitute, could have sealed the deal with a brilliant goal, but the ball hit the post.

Later, the Australians tried their luck from a distance several times, but B. Leno did not make any more mistakes and the Germans secured a victory with a 3-2 result.

The German national team and Chile have 3 points each in Group B, while Australia and Cameroon remain without victories.
