UEFA has decided to announce the best ever Champions League tournament players eleven.
The organization took into account the athletes' success in previous season's selections, as well as the number of nominations.
The best goalkeeper was recognized as long-time Madrid "Real" football player Iker Casillas (he made it to the symbolic tournament eleven 6 times). He surpassed Gianluigi Buffon (4) and Manuel Neuer (3).
The defenders selected were Carles Puyol (6), Philipp Lahm (5), Sergio Ramos (6), and Gerard Pique (5).
The dream team's midfield line-up was formed by Xavi (5), Andreas Iniesta (6), and Steven Gerrard (3). The latter players managed to surpass legends such as Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldinho, or Pavel Nedved.
In the striker line, Cristiano Ronaldo (11), Lionel Messi (8), and Thierry Henry (5) were named.
