There will be no football in the Netherlands all summer - Eredivisie championship suspended © JumpStory

The Dutch government has confirmed that the country's strongest football clubs will not be able to finish the 2019-20 season. As the country's Prime Minister Mark Rutte stated at a press conference, no sports events will take place in the Netherlands until at least September 1st. The possibility of finishing the "Eredivisie" season without spectators became impossible after it was revealed that matches still require police officers to be present. The mayors of major cities, including Amsterdam, had previously expressed a desire to end the football season. Now the entire responsibility falls on the shoulders of the Dutch Football Federation - they will have to decide on the final position of the teams in the league table. There should be particularly intense discussions about the champion's title - both Amsterdam's "Ajax" and "AZ Alkmaar" have 56 points. "Ajax" is at the top due to a better goal difference.
