"Barcelona B" team defender Thiago Alcantara will be moved to the main team of Catalonia this summer. This was announced on Monday by the official website of the Spanish champions. The nineteen-year-old footballer currently plays for the youth academy team, but he is constantly invited to train with the main team players and has already appeared on the field in 10 matches this season. Thiago played in six "Liga BBVA" league matches, two Copa del Rey games, and also made appearances in the Spanish Supercup and Champions League matches. Last June, Thiago signed a contract with Barcelona, valid until the summer of 2011. The contract stipulates that the Catalan club must inform the player of their decision regarding his future by January 31. There is also a condition that the contract will be extended for two more seasons immediately if the defender is transferred to the main Barcelona team in 2011. Therefore, this provision will officially take effect next summer. Thiago's buyout clause will increase threefold and will reach 30 million euros in the summer."
