On Friday, the "Sportima" arena in Vilnius became a kind of Lithuanian football center - three LFF Cup round of 16 matches were played there in one day, in which the favorites "Vėtra" and "Kaunas" clubs secured convincing victories, while in the third match "Nevėžis" defeated "Šilutė". The easiest task was for Vilnius "Vėtra", whose opponent was the I league team of Jonava "Lietava". In the middle of the first half, the capital's team was led ahead by Nerijus Sasnauskas with a penalty kick, in the 73rd minute, the club's newcomer Algis Jankauskas added a second goal, and Robertas Vėževičius secured the victory with a header in the penultimate minute. After the match, "Vėtra" coach Edgaras Gessas officially stated on the club's website that the victory could have been even greater if they had taken advantage of the created opportunities. "We fully controlled the game and created a lot of chances. Unfortunately, not all of them were realized and turned into goals. When playing against a team that defends the penalty area, it is difficult to score many goals. I am satisfied with the defensive line and defense, as we did not allow the opponents to create even the slightest opportunity," said E.Gessas. In the second match, two "A league" clubs - the vice-champion "Kaunas" and "Šiauliai" clashed. Although last season the winner of the quarterfinals of the cup was determined by a dramatic goal, this time the Kaunas team controlled the game throughout and secured a crushing victory by scoring three goals in the second half. All three goals for "Kaunas" were scored by the striker duo Arkadiusz Klimek and Gvidas Juška who appeared on the field as substitutes - A.Klimekas led his team ahead with a precise shot into the far corner of the goal, G.Juška scored in a similar situation a minute later, and as the match approached its end, the Polish legionnaire scored with a header for the second time. Having not won a single victory in the "A league" last season, Kėdainiai "Nevėžis" started the new season with a win - they defeated the "Šilutė" team with a score of 3-1. Marius Činikas led "Nevėžis" ahead with a header in the 5th minute, Šarūnas Kilijonas was neutralized by Mindaugas Daunoravičius after ten minutes, and Darius Adomaitis sealed the victory after playing for half an hour. Artūras Rimkevičius scored a consolation goal for the team from Šilutė. On Saturday, three more round of 16 matches will be played and there will also be one second-leg match between the reserve teams of "Vilnius" and "Vėtra". The first match between these teams ended without goals.
