On Thursday, in Marijampolė, the almost two-week-long football festival in Lithuania will finish - the European U-19 boys football championship.
In the final match, the European champions France, who defeated Spain, will face the surprise of the tournament, Serbia. The match will start at 21:45.
Both the French and Serbian national teams unexpectedly progressed to the final from Group B, where they played together.
The French started the championship unimpressively - with a 0:0 draw against Georgia, but their wins of 2:1 against Turkey and a 1:1 draw with Serbia were enough to reach the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, the French defeated Spain 2:1 after extra time.
In Group B, the Serbian team defeated Turkey 2:1, Georgia 1:0, and drew 1:1 with the French in the third match. In a thrilling semi-final against Portugal, the Serbians played a 2:2 draw and won the penalty shootout.
In the match between Serbia and France, the French led 1:0 after Adrieno Honou's goal, but Marko Pavlovski equalized with a penalty kick. The Serbians made several changes in that match to avoid disqualification due to yellow cards.
The Serbian and French national teams will meet in the European U-19 championship final on August 1st at 21:45 in Marijampolė. The referee for the final match will be the Belarusian referee Aleksejus Kulbakovas.
