UEFA has revealed the surnames of 10 players who are competing for the title of the best footballer of the year in Europe. The list is dominated by players from Madrid's "Real" team. Last season, after winning the UEFA Champions League trophy in the 11-meter penalty shootout, the royal club has four candidates. They are Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos, and Pepe. Both Munich's "Bayern" and "Barcelona" have two representatives each. Competing for the title of the best European player are Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez (both from "Barcelona"), and Bayern players Manuel Neuer and Thomas Muller. Also competing for the title of the best player of the year in Europe are Antoine Griezmann ("Atletico") and Gianluigi Buffon ("Juventus"). The best player of the past season in Europe will be announced on August 25th.
