This week marks the start of the second round in the new UEFA Champions League season. On Tuesday evening, 16 teams from Groups A-D entered the battle.
One of the most anticipated matchups should take place in North London, where London's "Tottenham" team, supported by their fans, will host the Munich "Bayern" players.
The "Spurs" team started their Champions League campaign with a disappointing draw against Piraeus' "Olympiacos", so in order to avoid even bigger problems, they must try to defeat the Munich visitors this evening, who easily dealt with Belgrade's "Crvena Zvezda" in the first round.
The match at the "Tottenham" stadium will kick off at 22:00. Here are the key facts of the match:
The last time these teams played in official matches was in the 1983-84 season. "Tottenham" defeated "Bayern" with an overall score of 2:1 in the UEFA Cup, winning their last European trophy.
The two victories that "Bayern" achieved before facing "Tottenham" were achieved at home. Both visits to England by the Bavarians were unsuccessful - a draw in 1982 and a loss by 0:2 the following year.
In the Champions League tournament, "Bayern" won eight out of the last 11 home matches. A similar statistic is shown by "Tottenham" - nine wins out of 12 matches at home.
Last season, "Tottenham" kept a clean sheet at their stadium three times - the same number as in the previous three seasons combined.
Bayern's defense is also strong - three clean sheets in their last four home games.
In opponents' territory, Bayern is a tough nut to crack - they have not lost any of the last nine away Champions League games (6 wins, 3 draws). The last time they went on a streak of 10 unbeaten games was between 2012 and 2014.
Leader of Bayern, Robert Lewandowski, has scored at least one goal in 39 Champions League matches. Only five players have performed better: Ruud van Nistelrooy (42), Karim Benzema (45), Raul (56), Lionel Messi (68), and Cristiano Ronaldo (82).
