Julian Nagelsmann revealed the reasons why he did not agree to become Zinedine Zidane's successor at the helm of Real Madrid.
The 31-year-old coach is considered one of the best young specialists in Europe, but in life he sees more important things than chasing fame.
Last season, the modest Hoffenheim club led by the strategist all the way to the UEFA Champions League, and from the 2019-20 season he will start leading RB Leipzig.
"Madrid (Real Madrid - ed. note) called me," Nagelsmann told "11Freunde". "Who could say no? There is no such thing as the ultimate football club in the universe, so there is no bigger club than Real Madrid."
"However, I am 31 years old, I will have another chance. I did not want to move to another country."
"If my coaching career goes well, maybe I will have the opportunity to move to a club of that level later. Moving abroad was also not convenient due to family reasons."
"The biggest problem in our society is the tendency to aim for maximum. The most important thing is to have more than your neighbor - to have the biggest car, the biggest bank account, the biggest house. I do not want to be in this situation."
Nagelsmann informed Hoffenheim in advance about his decision to accept RB Leipzig's offer in order not to cause trouble by revealing it to him.
