Upon arriving in Lithuania, "Trakai" coach Sergejus Kovalecas wasted no time getting acquainted with the peculiarities of the Lithuanian national team. After spending a few days in our country, the Ukrainian specialist had the opportunity to observe the Lithuania-Slovenia match, and in the past week he watched Lithuanian matches very closely, both with Scots and with Malta.
"I have to be interested in that because two of our players were invited to the national team (smiles). I want to commend the Lithuanian team, they played both matches at a very high level. As a coach, I am very pleased that our club players were together and contributed to the result achieved.
Nerijus (Valskis) was very active in both matches. You could see with the naked eye how much effort he put in to achieve a positive result. Speaking of Deivid, I have no doubt that his experience and ability to communicate contributed to a good team atmosphere, which is clearly visible even to the naked eye," shared the head coach on the official website of "Trakai."
In Kovalecas's opinion, the recovery of the Lithuanian national team is largely due to a very strong analysis of the opponents.
"In the three matches I watched, I saw a beautiful picture, where the contours are clearly outlined. Such a picture can only be drawn when the opponent's game has been analyzed down to the smallest details. I also saw a huge intensity and willingness to fight in the Lithuanian national team's game. These are probably the most important details in football. The team is definitely on the right track," stated Kovalecas, adding that he would not be surprised if his team, at the end of the tournament, stood on the second step of the podium.
"I have no doubt that coaches will analyze why goals were conceded in the matches against Scots and Slovenes. In my opinion, there was a lack of concentration somewhere. On the other hand, Lithuania has not lost anything absolutely. Now awaits three interesting matches, after which it will be clearer what this national team is worth. But a good finish by this team would not surprise me. A strong desire, a wonderful atmosphere, standing up for a teammate - with such weapons, every team can achieve feats," said Kovalecas.
The coach and the team are preparing for the last matches of the fourth round of the A League in Klaipeda against "Atlantas" on Sunday.
