Troubles continue to plague Italian football: "Serie B" championship suspended

Problems continue to plague Italian football - the country's Olympic Committee has announced that the "Serie B" championship is temporarily suspended.

Such measures were necessary for CONI (Italian Olympic Committee) to take after of the planned 22 teams in "Serie B", only 19 remained. The clubs "Avellino", "Casena" and "Barri" went bankrupt even before the start of the season, so they were automatically moved to "Serie D".

Finding new teams to replace the bankrupt clubs in "Serie B" at the beginning of the season physically proved impossible, so the championship started with a tournament table of 19 teams.

Despite the fact that three rounds had already been played in the championship, other clubs filed complaints with the Olympic committee, stating that "Serie B" cannot proceed without 22 teams.

The president of the Regional Lazio Administrative Court, Franco Frattini, confirmed that the championship is being suspended at least until October 9th.

On Friday, there will be a meeting of the highest-ranking officials of the country to decide whether "Serie B" will continue this season with 19 teams or if three new faces will join the competition.
