Turo review: the duo of leaders escaped even further

After a break last weekend, the battles of the "TOPsport A Lyga" returned - the 17th round was played.

Repeated. The second meeting between Kaunas district "Hegelmann" and Marijampolė "Sūduva" was much more productive, the blue and white team won dramatically with a score of 3:2.

Just like in the first, in the second half, the author of the winning goal was the 24-year-old Cameroonian Steve Kingue. Both times this midfielder scored against "Sūduva".

Most productive. The 17th round of the championship was marked by the highest number of goals - the ball was sent into the opponent's goal 16 times.

Four players scored twice - Dominykas Kubilinskas, Davis Ikauniekas, Valdas Paulauskas and Matas Vareika. The teams of the last two players celebrated victories.

No mercy. Telšiai's "Džiugas" played a great stretch in the first half, but did not secure the lead and shared points with FA "Šiauliai" - 3:3.

Dominykas Kubilinskas scored two goals against his former long-time team, playing the best match in the Lithuanian championship. In addition, the debuts of 21-year-old forward Mantas Pikčiūnas for the team from Šiauliai brought joy.

Highlights. "Džiugas" and FA "Šiauliai" did not lack emotions - three red cards were shown. One of them was shown to Egidijus Vaitkūnas, who was sent off for the first time in the Lithuanian championship since 2013.

After the match, Joaquim Domingos of Džiugas and FA Šiauliai's head coach Mindaugas Čepas received red cards. Meanwhile, Latvian D. Ikauniekas positioned himself as one of the most productive players in the championship.

Rival. Vilnius district "TransINVEST" team is having a hard time defending against V. Paulauskas - his double determined Gargždai "Banga's" 2:0 victory.

In both mutual matches, this player scored 3 goals, and the team he represents recovered after a couple of consecutive losses and climbed to the 5th position.

Episode. The duel in Gargždai could have turned in a different direction in the 25th minute when Henrique Devensas stood at the 11-meter mark.

However, he had to beat Mantas Bertašius - he failed to do so, the ball went wide, so the goalkeeper of "Banga" did not allow a penalty goal this season out of three attempts.

Change. Alytus DFK "Dainava" continues to play non-impactfully, but often allows to achieve draws. At home against "Kauno Žalgiris", a draw was played 0:0.

A change occurred in the starting lineup - for the second time this season, Airidas Mickevičius started the match. The Alytus team once again kept the goal "dry", saving the team after a late attack by Artūras Dolžnikovas.

Debut. In an official match at the helm of "Kauno Žalgiris", debutant Saulius Širmelis had to make three forced substitutions in the first half.

Karolis Šilkaitis, Jermaine Hylton, and Maxime Spano Rahou had to leave the field. To make matters worse, captain Jason Noslinas received a red card in the second half.

Series. In 2024, all three matches between Vilnius "Žalgiris" and "Panevezys" ended with the identical result of 2:1. In all of them, the capital's club won.

The seventh goal scorer Joel Bopesu also contributed to the last victory, sharing the position of the most productive player with D. Ikauniekas.

Youth. After leaving "Panevėžys", Matijus Remeikis stands out among the young players of the team, 19-year-old Nojus Lukšys - the son of the most productive player of all time in the "TOPsport A Lyga" Povilas Lukšys, opened the scoring in the Lithuanian championship.

Experiencing injuries to both goalkeepers and failing to open the transfer window, debutant 20-year-old Danielis Bukelis made his way to the "Panevėžys B" goal. He should do the same in the next match in Širvintos.
