On Wednesday, it was officially announced that the team of "Twente" was removed from the "Eredivisie" championship due to financial problems.
This is not the first punishment this team has received due to financial problems - three points were deducted from the club this season, and last season they received such penalties twice. Now the Dutch Football Federation has decided to take more serious actions and sent "Twente" to the country's second division.
This penalty was called a "second chance" and it was far from the worst that this team could expect. There were reports that the licensing committee could have completely banned this team from playing in the country's championships, which would have meant bankruptcy for "Twente".
By the way, the removal of "Twente" from the league changed the chances of teams that occupied the last three places in the "Eredivisie" standings to stay in the league. "Willem II" and "De Graafschap" are now fighting for survival in the relegation playoffs, but even if one of these teams loses the decisive series, they would still stay in the league and take "Twente's" place. It is also said that if these teams win in the final matches and maintain their place in the league, the team occupying the last place, "Cambuur", represented by Lithuanian Vytautas Andriuškevičius last season, would not have to say goodbye to the top division.
