"Two important players could soon leave Žalgiris"

Preparations for the upcoming season continue for FK “Žalgiris”, who will be missing several players in the first friendly match against Suvalkai’s “Wigry” on Saturday. Defender Linas Klimavičius and goalkeeper Tautvydas Eliošius are preparing for trials at foreign clubs, while defender Aldas Korsakas will be training with Jonava’s “Lietava” team starting Wednesday.

Last year, L. Klimavičius transferred from “Trakai” to “Žalgiris” and will be traveling to Moldova on Sunday to spend a week training with the multiple Moldovan champions FC Sheriff Tiraspol. The 27-year-old player played a total of 38 matches last season and scored 3 goals in the green and white striped jersey, forming a strong defensive duo with Mamadou Mbodji and contributing significantly to the team's victories.

At the end of the season, L. Klimavičius extended his contract with “Žalgiris”, but this week it was revealed that he was approached by the 14-time Moldovan champions FC Sheriff. Meanwhile, Tiraspol, who currently hold the second position in the country's league, began preparations for the second half of the season on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, T. Eliošius's career is heading to Slovenia. The 25-year-old player, who transferred from Pakruojis “Kruoja” to “Žalgiris” at the end of 2015, played 9 matches and scored 1 goal for the Lithuanian champions last season. In July, he moved on loan to Jonava’s “Lietava”, where he played 12 matches and made 2 assists. On Thursday, T. Eliošius will depart to Slovenia to join the top-tier club NK Celje. The team currently holds the fifth position in the Slovenian league after 21 rounds.

From January 18 to 23, young “Žalgiris” defender A. Korsakas will be training with Jonava’s “Lietava”. The 20-year-old player played two matches in the A league last year and also appeared in the 2016 LFF Cup match against “Palanga”. A. Korsakas, who plays in the first league with “Žalgiris” reserves team, played 21 matches last year and scored one goal.
