The boys U19 Baltic Cup tournament finished in Kaunas on Tuesday.
In the final matches, the Lithuanians lost 0:2 (0:1) to the Latvian team and finished in third place in the final standings.
In the tournament, all teams collected three points each, so the final ranking was determined by looking at the teams' goal difference. Latvia took first place (+1), Estonia was second (0), and Lithuania remained third (-1).
Let's remind that on Friday Lithuanians won 2:1 against the Estonian team, and in Sunday's match the Estonians defeated their Latvian counterparts 2:1.
Tuesday's match was tied throughout the first half, with neither team having a significant advantage. The Lithuanians had several good opportunities to score, but they couldn't capitalize on them.
Eventually, towards the end of the first half, the Lithuanians were punished - after a prolonged attack and a ricocheted ball, it flew into the goal and Lithuania went into halftime trailing 0:1.
At the beginning of the second half, the Lithuanians tried to press the opponents more actively, but they couldn't manage to send the ball into the goal, and gradually the awakened Latvians began to visit the Lithuanian goal more frequently. In the end, the guests' efforts bore fruit - at the end of the match, they scored a second goal, securing them the title of winners.
