UEFA plans: can shorten the qualification for European tournaments © JumpStory

The raging coronavirus has disrupted UEFA's annual plans. European football officials must scratch their heads on how to navigate through the ongoing situation, as the main continental leagues will finish their domestic championships very late in the summer. As "The Times" wrote, one of the options is to shorten the qualifying rounds for the main Champions League and Europa League tournaments. This would mean that in each round only one match would be played, instead of two. There were also proposals to play just one qualifying round for the Champions League, with the participation of the champions of the twelve highest-ranked countries without a guaranteed place in the group stage. These matches could take place in neutral venues.
