UEFA plans changes in the Champions League draw

UEFA is planning to change the format of the Champions League draw.

It is said that starting from the 2015-2016 season, the strongest clubs will be placed in a separate basket, with eight clubs - the tournament winner and the seven strongest champions of European leagues.

The current teams are selected based on a set coefficient.

The proposal will be discussed in upcoming UEFA board meetings.

If the changes are given the green light, it means that from the next season teams from Spain, England, Germany, Italy, Portugal, France, and Russia will be assigned to the group of the strongest clubs.

UEFA General Secretary Gianni Infantino said: "This will be like an additional reward for the countries' champions. In recent seasons, it was sometimes difficult to understand why the winner of the competition was not assigned to the best teams.

It happened in France and England - fans wondered why the champion had a lower rating than the team that finished third."
