UEFA plans radical changes in prestigious tournaments

After a few years, big changes can shake up European football.

The Italian newspaper "Corriere della Sera" released the news that UEFA is planning to radically restructure the Champions League and Europa League tournaments.

According to the press, they will look at examples of sports leagues in America and teams may be divided by their geographical location.

In the main Champions League tournament, 32 teams will participate, which will be divided into four groups. After the regular season, there will be knockout matches, and the top six teams from each group will receive guaranteed spots in the next season's competition.

It is said that only 4 teams from each country's national championship will be able to enter the selected round each season.

Meanwhile, the Europa League tournament will be split in half: with 32 teams in the first division and 64 teams in the second.

According to the press, later on, clubs may be grouped geographically into North, South, West, and East subgroups.

Teams will play in their home stadiums, and later advance to the knockout stages.

The changes could be introduced in 2024.
