UEFA punishes fans for chants about Russian President

The European football leadership has started an investigation into the chant "Putin is a dick" that was heard in Belarus. The UEFA Disciplinary Committee has targeted the Belarusian Football Federation (BFF) and the Ukrainian Football Federation (UFF) and aims to punish them for the chants of fans who sang a derogatory chant against Russian President Vladimir Putin during the qualifying matches for the 2016 European Football Championship.

The BFF may be punished for political chants and lack of security. The UFF is also accused of fan chants. It also faces fines for the use of pyrotechnics by fans.

The consequences of the behavior of Belarusian and Ukrainian fans will be revealed during a meeting of the UEFA Disciplinary Committee in November.

The Ukraine team won the match 2-0. Among the chants heard in the stadium were: "Live long, Belarus" and "Glory to Ukraine". However, the loudest and most passionate fans chanted "Putin is a dick".

This chant was also heard on October 9 during the match between the Lithuanian and Estonian national teams by fans of the Baltic States. They did it intentionally, singing the song at the 62nd minute of the match.

The Lithuanian Football Federation has not received any warnings from UEFA.
