UEFA report - club revenues nearly doubled over 10 years

UEFA announced its financial report over the past decade, showing a significant growth in revenues for the top 700 European football clubs.

It was calculated that in 2017, the total revenues of the 700 European clubs reached 20.1 billion euros, compared to 11.4 billion euros in 2008.

UEFA notes that in 2017, the overall profit of all clubs reached a record amount of 1.4 billion euros. This financial growth of clubs is also attributed to the decrease in debts, which started with the introduction of new financial rules in 2011.

Before 2011, clubs' debts accounted for 65% of their revenues, but by 2017, the percentage had decreased to 34%.

It was also revealed that over the past four years, clubs' revenues have grown faster than player wages – 8.9% and 6.7% respectively. However, the report also emphasizes that during the same period, transfer fees have significantly increased.

The UEFA report also adds that in terms of TV broadcasting rights, the English Premier League continues to lead the way. Only Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus earn more from broadcasting rights than any Premier League team.
