UEFA started considering the abolition of the away goal rule

If this were to happen, important football matches would have to change significantly, wrote lrytas.lt

Elite European club coaches have turned their attention to a key rule in club football. In Switzerland, there was a meeting with UEFA's General Secretary Giorgio Marchetti and the best coaches of European clubs, and afterwards he claimed to have heard calls to review the rule of the away goal.

"Coaches argued that scoring a goal in an away match is no longer as difficult as it used to be. In their opinion, this rule needs to be reviewed. We will analyze this," said G.Marchetti.

The away goal rule has been in place for over 50 years. Based on this rule, many teams in various tournaments would advance to the next stage. Changing it would likely also alter the tactical game of the teams.
