UEFA verdict for Russia - fine and threat of removal from competitions

On Tuesday, UEFA announced an official verdict for the Russian national team participating in the 2016 European Championship.

UEFA launched an investigation after clashes between English and Russian fans erupted in the stadium. Russian football fans in the stands attacked the English and started the fights. There were also many disturbances caused by the Russians on the streets of France, but UEFA does not blame the Russian Football Union for the fans' behavior on the streets.

After the official UEFA findings emerged, it became clear that the Russian national team could even face removal from the European Championship. If their fans cause similar clashes in the stadium again, the team will be expelled from the competition without any warning.

The Russian Football Union itself will have to pay a fine of 150 thousand euros for the aggressive football fans. UEFA also accuses Russian fans of inciting unrest, promoting racism, and using fireworks.

Russia will play their second group stage match on Wednesday. In Lille, the Russians will face a test from the Slovakian national team.
