Passion of Honduran football fans spilled over borders and their support for their teams became disastrous. In the capital city Tegucigalpa, clashes occurred between supporters of the teams "Olimpia" and "Motagua". The "Olimpia" fans attacked the rival team's bus, pelting it with stones. It is reported that three footballers were injured due to shattered glass: Roberto Moreira, Jonathan Rougier, and Emilio Izaguirre. Following this attack by "Olimpia" fans, clashes erupted with "Motagua" supporters. During the mass brawls, at least three people were killed and at least 12 were injured. Police officers had to intervene and disperse the fans. The "Motagua" team announced that they will not participate in the match scheduled for Sunday against the "Olimpia" club and urged the football league officials to take action regarding the behavior of the rival team's fans.
