Uruguay and Ecuador secure spots in World Cup © JumpStory

South America's (CONMEBOL) qualification for the World Cup is nearing its end. There is only one unknown team left to play in the additional qualification. All the other four teams that will qualify for the World Cup in Qatar are already known. On Thursday into Friday Lithuanian time, the Uruguay national team secured their spot in the World Cup with a 1-0 victory over Peru. Giorgian De Arrascaeta scored the winning goal in the 42nd minute. However, the match became somewhat scandalous as there was a slippery situation towards the end of the match, where a goal could have been scored for Uruguay, but after a VAR review, the result remained unchanged.

Meanwhile, Ecuador lost 1-3 to Paraguay, but this did not stop the team from returning to the World Cup after a one championship break. Ecuador will play against Argentina in their final matches, but it will be more of a formality than a decisive match.

Other results: Brazil 4-0 Chile, Colombia 3-0 Bolivia. In the final round of matches to qualify for the World Cup, Peru, Colombia, and Chile will compete for the last spot. There is only one ticket left, the teams will play separate matches, with Peru national team having the best chances.
