39 years 3 months 11 days - being of such age, the "Knights" defender Valdemaras Borovskij sent the ball into the "Kaunas Žalgiris" goal and became the top scorer of the modern A League. For many years, the "Knights" veteran player (having played over 200 matches for the "Knights" team) who was considering the end of his career, managed to play 18 matches in this season alone.
"Many laugh at me that I have been announcing the end of my career for four years (smiling). I don't know what a 39-year-old young man jumping around looks like, but I feel very good myself. Before the season, I said that I don't want to end my career as a loser, and these years... you can see for yourself."
"In fact, the dream would be to end the career on a high note and achieve goals with the 'Knights'. Based on how I feel, if I am still needed, I am thinking of extending my career," said V. Borovskij.
One of the arguments for extending the career - team spirit. What does the team spirit look like for a team that loses more often than wins?
"In the Knights" I have been for seven years, and it's true that we have never had anything similar. There is no point in hiding, poor results affect team spirit. It's hard for everyone, but what's heartening is that no one gives up even in such a difficult situation.
We have nowhere to retreat, so we will fight to the end. I can guarantee that the "Knights" will never give up.
If a cup was won and the team remained in ninth place... would that be a good season?
When the goal before the season was to be in the top four, the ninth place is not a dream place. Nevertheless, if we add a cup, in the current situation, it wouldn't be the worst outcome. The club hasn't won any titles in its history. In addition, by winning a cup, there would be a chance to compete for the Super Cup at the beginning of the next season.
When will the team start winning?
Nobody knows the answer to this question, but I will say this: in the first half of the season, we weren't even worthy of winning, as we played poorly. Now the situation is different - we play well, it's just that something is missing for it to reflect on the scoreboard. Throughout my career, I have heard that if you play well, the results will come. Without a doubt.
The A-League calculated that nobody at your age has scored a goal since 2005. What can you say about that goal-scoring situation?
Of course, I am happy that being almost forty, I can score in the A League, but... if I could exchange that goal for a point in the league table, I would do it without hesitation.
Do you remember all the goals from your career?
Since there weren't many of them, I remember most of them.
On Friday, you will face "Sūduva". What can we expect from the team from Marijampolė?
I have no doubt that "Sūduva" will put up a fight, but no matter how banal it sounds, we have to look not at them, but at ourselves. If we play like we did in the last few matches, if we have at least some finishing, everything should be fine. We all really want to finally end the streak of losses.
