Throughout his career playing for Barcelona, Lionel Messi has been pressured several times to agree to represent the Spanish national team, but the football leadership of this country never heard a "yes" from the player, writes lrytas.lt.
Former coach of the Spanish national team, Vicente Del Bosque, speaking on the radio, insisted that the federation did everything to persuade L. Messi to choose the Spanish national team.
"Messi would have greatly strengthened the Spanish team. I know that the federation had made him an offer and did everything to get him to wear the Spanish team jersey. However, Lionel kept refusing, saying that he wanted to represent the Argentine national team," said the renowned coach.
The strategist, who became a champion of Europe and the world with the Spaniards, added that he found it difficult to imagine how the team would have looked with L. Messi.
"If Messi had represented Spain, it certainly wouldn't have worsened the situation - it would have only been better. Messi is Messi and he is unique. I don't know if we would have won even more titles, but I am convinced that we would not have lost anything. If we talk about dreams, I really wanted to work with Lionel in the national team. I was lucky to work with super players, but Leo is no worse than them, maybe even better," said V. Del Bosque, who coached the Spanish national team from 2008 to 2016.
