Observing such a beginning of the season, in which Philippe Coutinho, Virgil van Dijk, or Diego Costa are not playing due to unresolved futures, "Manchester City" captain Vincent Kompany seems like a symbol of loyalty.
Contrary to the norm in modern football, the Belgian has been playing for the "citizens" for almost 10 years, so the English newspaper "Daily Mail" decided to talk to him on this particular topic.
The 31-year-old center-back admits that everything is not as simple as it may seem from the outside.
"Loyalty in football is a complex issue," Kompany said. "Everyone wants it, but in reality coaches think, 'If I can find a better player, I no longer need you,' and the players themselves think, 'If I can find a club that wins more games, then I leave.'
"I was fortunate to join a club that grew as my career developed. However, sometimes decisions are made by coaches and directors, and if you don't fit into their plans, you may love the club as much as you want, but you may have to move on."
Despite various injuries throughout his career, Kompany has played 314 matches for "Manchester City."
